Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin concern which affects approximately twenty percent of adults, and predominantly females. Often mistaken for Acne, allergies or eczema, Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition which manifests on the face and can cause pimples, facial flushing and extreme redness. Sun exposure, stress, and certain foods can exacerbate symptoms; however, while there is no cure for Rosacea, certain treatments, such as BBL, can be of benefit in reducing its appearance.

What can help?

BBL (Broadband Light) is a common and often successful way to minimise the appearance of Rosacea. It works by beaming a range of different light wavelengths into the skin, where they react with the target haemoglobin (the red pigment which gives blood cells their colour) – effectively reducing redness and restoring a homogenous skin tone. In combination with prescription topical skincare, BBL can help to manage the inflammation associated with Rosacea while restoring patient confidence.

Common Questions

What are the benefits?

Our bespoke BBL treatments mean that we can noticeably reduce the appearance of Rosacea. It is vitally important that you do not come for a treatment if you have tanned skin, either real or fake, or if you have recently used any photosensitising medications (the most common of which are tetracycline antibiotics, a commonly prescribed acne suppressant).

Which anaesthetic is used?

We use cold air to cool the skin and provide a comforting sensation during the treatment, distracting from any heat generated as a by product of the treatment.

What's the downtime?

Following BBL treatment, it is normal for the skin to be pink, although this subsides very quickly – hence, why we refer to IPL as a “no downtime treatment”. It is advisable to keep the complexion clear of makeup and to use a mild skincare routine and a high SPF in the days following.

When will I see results?

Your doctor will recommend a course of treatment based on your needs, with four weeks between each session. While best results are visible following completion of the course, you should be able to notice a progressive improvement after each session.
