Sculptra is a regenerative treatment designed to restore volume, improve skin quality, and rebuild structural support by stimulating your body’s own collagen production.
At McKeown Medical, we use Sculptra® as part of a sophisticated approach to rejuvenation that respects the complexity of ageing and avoids overfilled, artificial results. Instead of masking volume loss, Sculptra helps restore the collagen that has been lost over time.
We most commonly use Sculptra for the neck, chest, arms and gluteal region, as well as in selected facial patients who require deeper, more comprehensive volumisation.

Sculptra is an injectable collagen stimulator made from poly-L-lactic acid. Rather than creating instant volume like traditional fillers, it works by encouraging your body to gradually produce new collagen.
This means results develop progressively over time, improving not just volume, but also:
The outcome is subtle, refined and long-lasting with results developing over several months and lasting up to 2 years.
Sculptra® for neck rejuvenation
The neck is one of the most challenging areas to treat. Sculptra® helps improve crepey skin, restore support, and strengthen the underlying tissue. We often combine it with CoolSculpting to reduce any excess fatty tissue under the chin and Sofwave to tighten any loose skin.
Sculptra® for chest (décolletage) rejuvenation
Sun damage and collagen loss often show early in the chest. Sculptra® improves skin quality, thickness and texture, helping to soften the area and create smoother skin. We often combine this treatment with BBL and Halo laser for the chest area.
Sculptra® for arms
For patients concerned about thinning skin or laxity in the upper arms, Sculptra® can improve tissue quality and provide subtle volumisation for a firmer look. This is especially effective for crepey skin on the upper arms.
Sculptra® for the gluteal region (non-surgical BBL alternative)
Sculptra® can be used to enhance shape, improve skin quality and create a modest volumising effect in the buttocks without surgery. This is ideal for patients seeking refinement rather than dramatic augmentation.
Sculptra® for the face
In the face, our strategy is typically to reserve Sculptra® treatment for patients who require more significant volume restoration. It is particularly effective for addressing global volume loss and rebuilding deeper structural support.
We use more than one type of PLLA in our practice, where we tailor our approach based on each individuals needs.
Julaine™ → best for patients who need subtle collagen stimulation and lighter volume enhancement
Sculptra® → best for patients who require broader, more significant volume restoration
For patients with more advanced facial ageing, the most effective approach is often combination treatment:
Sculptra® offers a different category of result compared to traditional fillers:
Because results develop over time, they integrate seamlessly into your appearance, avoiding the “overdone” look.
If you are considering Sculptra® for the face, neck, chest, arms or gluteal region, the first step is a consultation.
We begin the process by asking you to upload some photos and a description of your concerns. We will then provide initial treatment recommendations and information to consider on the potential treatments ahead of your first in-person consultation. Our priority is ensuring you have enough information to make informed decisions and achieve an optimal outcome for your individual needs.
Start your consultation today and let us guide you through a thoughtful, bespoke plan for enduring structural rejuvenation.
Sculptra® is ideal for patients who:
It is particularly well suited to patients who want to look refreshed and restored, not altered.
Your treatment plan will be tailored to your individual needs and the results you are looking to achieve.
Treatment involves carefully placing Sculptra® into the target areas using advanced injection techniques.
The procedure is generally well tolerated. After treatment, it is normal to experience:
Most patients return to normal activities quickly.
Results develop gradually over several weeks as collagen production increases. Most patients need two or three sessions, depending on the area being treated.
After treatment, massage is essential.
We recommend the 5-5-5 rule:
This helps ensure even distribution of the product and is an important part of achieving optimal results, minimising the risk of nodule formation.
Sculptra® nodules: understanding the risks
Sculptra® is a highly effective treatment, but it is important to understand the risks — particularly the potential for nodules.
With older treatment protocols, nodule rates were reported as high as 1 in 5 patients. With modern dilution techniques, improved preparation and advanced injection protocols, this risk has reduced significantly to approximately 1 in 200.
While this is a substantial improvement, the risk is not zero.
For this reason, Sculptra® must be used selectively and appropriately:
At McKeown Medical, we discuss this transparently so you can make an informed decision about whether Sculptra® is right for you.
Sculptra® is not a “one-size-fits-all” treatment. It requires careful patient selection, advanced technique, and a deep understanding of facial and body anatomy.
At McKeown Medical, we take a tailored approach:
This is a more considered, more sophisticated approach to aesthetic medicine.
Most patients will require 3 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, to reach optimal correction, particularly if there is mid-face hollowing or structural volume loss.
No — when correctly injected and integrated into a strategic plan, Sculptra® offers subtle improvements that evolve over time, producing refreshed, natural-looking results rather than a “puffy” appearance.
Clinical data show results lasting up to 2 years or more, and in some patients results may be maintained longer with appropriate maintenance and lifestyle support.
Discomfort is minimal and typically managed by topical anaesthetic. Bruising or swelling may occur but usually resolves in a few days. Most patients return to routine activities straight away.
