Why can my treatment quote differ from the price on our website?

Knowing what a treatment is likely to cost is an important part of deciding whether it is right for you. We publish prices on our website to help you explore your options and plan your budget before booking a consultation.

In our recent patient feedback survey, two respondents told us they were disappointed that the price quoted after their consultation differed from the price they had seen online. We understand that disappointment. Although our website uses “from” prices, we recognise that we need to explain more clearly what this means and why a final quote can sometimes be higher.

What does a “from” price mean?

The “from” price on our website is the most common price for that particular procedure. For most straightforward cases, this is what the treatment will cost.

However, a procedure name cannot capture every patient’s needs. Two people may book a consultation for the same operation but need quite different treatment plans.

The website price is therefore a useful starting point. Your individual quote depends on what is involved in treating you.

Why can the treatment plan vary?

We never take a one-size-fits-all approach. At your consultation, we assess your anatomy, medical history, any previous treatment or surgery, and the result you hope to achieve. We then develop a plan tailored to your needs.

Sometimes, this will be a straightforward procedure that falls within the published price. In other cases, achieving the agreed result may involve additional surgical steps, more time in theatre, extra materials or laboratory costs.

Those differences can affect the final price. Calling both treatments by the same name does not necessarily mean they involve the same amount of work or the same costs.

An example: breast implant exchange

A breast implant exchange illustrates this well.

For one patient, the operation may involve removing the existing implants and inserting new ones. If no additional work is needed, this will usually be a more straightforward procedure.

Another patient may need a more involved operation. Depending on the clinical findings, their plan could include removing some or all of the capsule—the scar tissue that forms around an implant—sending that tissue to a laboratory for examination, and creating a new pocket for the replacement implant.

In selected cases, the surgeon may also recommend a surgical mesh to provide additional support. Mesh is an additional material with a substantial cost of its own.

These steps are not required for every implant exchange. Whether they are appropriate depends on the individual assessment and a discussion of the benefits, risks and alternatives.

Both patients are having an “implant exchange”, but the operations differ in their complexity, duration, materials and laboratory requirements. Their quotes will therefore differ too.

What should you expect after your consultation?

You should understand both the proposed treatment and its cost before deciding to proceed.

If your quote is higher than the website price, the reason should be clear: what additional work is recommended, why it is being recommended, and how it affects the overall cost.

Please ask us to explain anything that is unclear. If you have a particular budget in mind, it is helpful to tell us so we can discuss what is realistically achievable and whether there are suitable alternatives. You should take time to consider your options without feeling pressured to make a decision.

Making our pricing clearer

Publishing prices helps patients make informed choices. So does explaining their limits.

Our “from” prices reflect what most patients pay for a straightforward procedure. A consultation allows us to establish whether that procedure is suitable for you or whether your needs require a different plan.

We are grateful to the patients who raised this in their feedback.

This is a little sneak peek of our upcoming podcast between Dr Darren (@drdarrenmckeown) and our new body contouring expert, Dr George Christopolous (@gchristopoulos). The full video will be going live later this week.
On a scale of 1-10, how excited are we for George to start his body contouring in Scotland?
I’m super excited to welcome Dr George Christopoulos to the dream team at McKeown Medical.

George is a plastic surgeon with a particular interest in body contouring: liposuction, tummy tucks, arm lifts and thigh lifts.

What I really love about George’s work is his approach to liposuction. It’s not about simply emptying out as much fat as possible. He approaches the body almost like a sculptor, thinking about shape, proportion, contours, highlights and shadows. It’s those details that can elevate a fairly standard liposuction result into something really special.

You can check out some of his work on his own page @gchristopoulos

I’ve also filmed a podcast with George where we get into all things body contouring — what makes a great liposuction result, loose skin, tummy tucks, lipoedema, technology and quite a lot more. I’ll be posting that over the next couple of days.

In the meantime, if you want to meet the man himself, George’s diary is now open for consultations at McKeown Medical.
IS THE QUANTUM LIFT A CUT-PRICE FACELIFT?

No, and here’s why.

A deep plane facelift goes deeper into the face, removing deep fat, muscle and salivary glands which is how you get those sharp neck contours. The Quantum Lift works more superficially, tightening skin and reshaping jowls in 90 minutes under local anaesthetic, but it can’t reach those deeper structures.

I believe in the Quantum Lift. I just won’t pretend it suits everyone.

Good aesthetic medicine means the right procedure for the right patient, not one treatment doing it all.

Some more Quantum Lift magic!

This patient is just 24 hours after her Quantum lift with fat redistribution. As part of the procedure we sometimes take some of excess fat that’s been removed from the neck and jowls and replace it along the chin and jaw to create more definition.

Although she’s still bruised and swollen, I think we can all already see where this result is heading.

The patient is delighted! What do you think?
