Male wrinkles

Wrinkle Reduction is one of the most commonly requested procedures in male patients. However, while many of the men we see in the clinic are seeking to look fresher and less tired through wrinkle-reduction treatments, they are also in pursuit of an end result that is utterly undetectable. Understanding the foundations of the male face, and the features that give it an appearance of masculinity, are therefore crucial in determining the best approach – and a satisfied patient.

What can help?

Forehead Lines, Frown Lines or Crow’s Feet can be softened through strategic injections of a muscle-relaxing agent. This reduces muscular activity, preventing excessive contractions, and therefore lessening the appearance of static lines. Where the lines are especially deep, a tiny amount of dermal filler may help to fill visible wrinkles, resulting in a more rested appearance. However, the most important aspect of treating the male face is to respect the natural position of the brow, and keep this lower and flatter – rather than elevating it, as this can appear feminine.

Common Questions

What are the benefits?

By controlling muscle activity in the male face, we can effectively soften lines and wrinkles – while still maintaining the patient’s natural expressions and character. If the lines are particularly deep, they will often be improved with treatment but will not vanish completely. However, a course of treatment over a period of time can prove effective: gradually softening even the deepest wrinkles.

Which anaesthetic is used?

Wrinkle reduction typically does not require the use of anaesthetic – although for very sensitive areas, a topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand. When injecting, we use only the finest-gauge needles and take care to change these regularly, therefore eliminating discomfort and potential bruising.

What's the downtime?

There is little to no downtime with most wrinkle reduction treatments. Patients can resume their normal activities immediately after treatment.

When will I see results?

The results of treatment take up to two weeks to become apparent. The effects will typically last between three to six months, before a repeat treatment is required. Typically, most people opt to have muscle relaxing injections two to three times per year, and they often try to coincide treatment dates with big events, such as birthdays of Christmas.
