Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Lines & Wrinkles in Glasgow

Fine lines and wrinkles are a natural part of skin ageing, developing as collagen production slows and repeated facial movement gradually leaves its mark. Environmental factors such as UV exposure and pollution can accelerate this process, leaving the skin looking less smooth and less resilient. At McKeown Medical, we treat fine lines and wrinkles by improving the quality and structure of the skin itself, using advanced laser technology to restore smoother texture, refined tone, and a fresher, more rested appearance.

Advanced laser treatments designed to soften fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin quality, and support long-term collagen renewal for naturally refreshed, healthier-looking skin.

Fine Lines & Wrinkles Treatment Overview

Treating fine lines and wrinkles effectively requires more than surface correction. Laser resurfacing works by creating controlled micro-injuries within the skin, stimulating collagen renewal and cellular regeneration. Over time, this improves texture, tone, and elasticity, while softening fine lines and wrinkles. Treatment plans are always personalised, ensuring results remain natural, balanced, and appropriate for your skin.

Choosing Fine Lines & Wrinkles Treatments

The most suitable treatment for fine lines and wrinkles depends on skin quality, depth of lines, lifestyle, and tolerance for downtime. A personalised consultation ensures the approach selected aligns with both skin health and long-term goals.

Fine Lines & Wrinkles Treatments vs. Similar Procedures

Unlike injectable treatments that relax muscles or restore volume, laser treatments address the skin itself. This makes them particularly effective for improving texture, tone, and surface-level fine lines and wrinkles rather than altering facial shape or expression.

What can help?

Skin resurfacing with laser is the most effective treatment for smoothing the skin of fine lines and imperfections. When the extent of skin damage is severe, the most effective way to do this is using full-field resurfacing. This involves removing the entire surface of the skin, allowing it to heal in a more youthful way. This is a significant procedure that requires around 10 days of downtime and can leave some pinkness to the skin for a number of months. However, it results in a dramatic improvement in skin quality and it is a one-off, permanent solution.

Tailor-made solutions

When the fine lines are less extensive, or when the patient doesn’t want to commit to the downtime of a major procedure, a fractional skin resurfacing using the Halo laser is a good alternative. This is less invasive with most patients resuming normal activities within 5 days and continued gradual improvement for up to three months after the treatment.

In Action

Learn more about the Halo laser. The Halo is a less invasive resurfacing procedure, for patient who don’t want the downtime of full resurfacing.

More about Fine Lines & Wrinkles

How it Works

Step 1: Initial Consultation

Your consultation includes a detailed skin assessment, medical history review, and discussion of concerns. This allows the underlying causes of fine lines and wrinkles to be identified accurately.

Step 2: Treatment Planning & Preparation

A personalised treatment plan is created based on skin type, degree of ageing, and recovery preferences, ensuring expectations and outcomes are clearly aligned. Ahead of treatment, you may be advised to adjust skincare, avoid sun exposure, or pause certain medications to prepare the skin and optimise healing.

Step 3: Treatment

The laser is applied in a controlled and precise manner to resurface the skin and stimulate collagen production, with comfort carefully managed throughout.

Step 4: Recovery & Follow-Up

Clear aftercare guidance is provided, and follow-up appointments ensure healing is progressing well, and results are developing as expected.

Before, During, and After Fine Lines & Wrinkles Treatments

Knowing what to expect at each stage of treatment helps patients feel confident and prepared, from initial skin preparation through recovery and long-term results.

What To Expect Before a Fine Lines & Wrinkles Treatment

Before treatment, your skin is assessed in detail, and preparation advice is provided, which may include skincare adjustments and sun avoidance.

What To Expect During a Fine Lines & Wrinkles Treatment

During treatment, comfort is prioritised using cooling air and topical anaesthetic. The laser is applied precisely to target fine lines and wrinkles safely.

What To Expect After a Fine Lines & Wrinkles Treatment

After treatment, redness and peeling may be expected as the skin renews, depending on which protocol we chose for your skin type. As healing progresses, fine lines and wrinkles soften and skin texture improves.

Common Questions

What are the benefits?

Our bespoke laser treatments are designed to “wound and heal” the skin, therefore stimulating new collagen and refining the complexion. The objective is to allow the skin to return to a smoother, more rested appearance.

Which anaesthetic is used?

We use cold air to cool the skin and topical numbing cream to provide additional comfort during fractional Halo laser treatments. When full field resurfacing is being performed, however, this requires us to also use some injectable local anaesthetic – similar to the dentist.

What's the downtime?

Following Halo laser treatment, the skin will be red and feel sunburnt for a few days, before turning dry and flaky. Most patients can expect to get back to social activities within 5 days of having the treatment. When undergoing full field skin resurfacing, you can expect around 10 days of downtime – although it can take a number of months before the pinkness settles completely.

When will I see results?

You will generally notice an improvement in your skin as soon as your initial healing period is complete. However, it takes two to three of months for full healing which is when you will typically see the final results.

Are Fine Lines & Wrinkles Treatments safe for all skin types?

Suitability depends on skin type and medical history. A consultation ensures fine lines and wrinkles are treated safely and appropriately.

At what age should I start treating Fine Lines & Wrinkles in Glasgow?

There is no fixed age. Treatment is based on skin condition rather than years once fine lines and wrinkles become noticeable.

Are Fine Lines & Wrinkles Treatments painful?

Discomfort is generally mild and well managed with cooling and anaesthetic during treatment.

Can lifestyle factors affect the results of Fine Lines & Wrinkles Treatments in Glasgow?

Sun exposure, smoking, and skincare habits can influence how long results last after treating fine lines and wrinkles.

What causes Fine Lines and Wrinkles as we age?

Collagen loss, repeated facial movement, and environmental damage all contribute to the development of fine lines and wrinkles.
