What can help?

The first line treatment is to use over the counter products designed to help reduce the production of sweat. If these are not successful however, injections can be performed that reduce the activity of the sweat glands and therefore helps to reduce the excessive sweating.

The effects of the injections can last anywhere from three to six months. Many patients chose to have the treatment once per year in the lead up to summer to do them over the hotter months – when the symptoms are typically worse – although some patients are so effected by the problem that they come back more frequently.

Common Questions

What are the benefits?

The main benefit is that the symptoms of excess sweating are reduced or stopped for up to 95% of patients. The treatment is also non-surgical, which makes it much less invasive than surgical alternatives.

Which anaesthetic is used?

The injections are performed with tiny needles so often no anaesthetic is required at all. If you are having a particularly sensitive area such as the hands of feet treated then we will often apply a numbing cream for half an hour before the injections.

What is the downtime?

There is no downtime with the treatment. You are able to resume normal activities immediately following treatment.

When will I see results?

It typically takes around two weeks for the treatment to reach its full effect.
