Sagging Jawline

Sagging Jawline Treatment in Glasgow

A sagging jawline is one of the most common concerns we see in our Glasgow clinic. For most patients, it is not simply the loss of structure that bothers them, but what it does to their confidence. Some dislike their profile or avoid photographs; others feel the lack of definition makes the whole face look weak. Understanding the cause is what allows us to recommend the right treatment, and that may be non-surgical, surgical, or a combination of the two.

Sagging Jawline Treatment Overview

A sagging jawline develops as the face loses support across every layer at once. Skin loosens, the fat pads of the mid face descend, and bone resorption around the chin and jaw reduces the underlying framework. Treatment works by rebuilding that lost structure or repositioning the tissue that has dropped. Which approach is right for you depends on the underlying cause, which is why every treatment plan begins with a careful assessment rather than a predetermined solution.

Understanding the Benefits of Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Choosing Sagging Jawline Treatment

The best treatment for a sagging jawline is the one matched to its cause. Where volume loss is the main change, restoring structure at the cheeks, chin and jawline creates a natural lifting effect. Where skin laxity dominates, tightening or surgery may be more appropriate. The right approach depends on your individual anatomy, which is why the consultation begins by identifying exactly what is driving the changes you see before anything is recommended.

Non-surgical Sagging Jawline Treatments vs. Surgical Sagging Jawline Procedures

Non-surgical treatment rebuilds support without downtime and suits early to moderate change, though it has a ceiling. Surgical procedures reposition the deeper tissues of the face for a lasting correction where laxity is more advanced, with a longer recovery in return. Between the two sits the Quantum Lift, a minimally invasive option for patients who need more than non-surgical treatment can offer but are not yet ready for surgery. None is inherently better. They address different stages, and many patients move between them over time as their needs change. Assessment determines which is right for you now.

Sagging Jawline Concerns We Address

Patients come to us with a range of related concerns along the lower face. These include softening or loss of jawline definition, jowls forming either side of the chin, heaviness beneath the chin, and a jaw that has lost sharpness in profile. An underdeveloped or receding chin often contributes, which is why the chin is always assessed alongside the jaw rather than treated as a separate area.

Our Non-Surgical Sagging Jawline Treatments

The most effective non-surgical treatment for a sagging jawline is the use of volume restoring injections, typically restoring volume in the cheeks, chin and jawline for the best results. If you have a petite chin as a facial feature, this often looks attractive in youth but as bone reabsorption kicks in as part of the ageing process this predisposes you to forming jowls early and correcting the size and shape of the chin with filler injections will help to improve this considerably.

We offer non-surgical, minimally invasive and surgical options for a sagging jawline, matched to the underlying cause and the degree of change present. The following treatments cover early softening through advanced laxity, and many patients benefit from a combination.

Chin / Jaw Filler

Best where the jawline has softened through volume loss rather than significant skin laxity. Filler placed at the chin and along the jaw rebuilds the underlying framework, restoring definition without downtime.

Jowl Lift

Designed for patients whose main concern is the jowls themselves rather than the whole lower face. It covers both surgical and non-surgical approaches, selected according to your anatomy and the degree of laxity present.

Minimally Invasive Sagging Jawline Treatment

The Quantum Lift

Suited to patients with mild to moderate laxity who want more improvement than non-surgical treatment can give but are not yet ready for facelift surgery.

The Quantum Lift combines:

Quantum RF Skin Tightening

Precision Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL)

This sharpens the jawline and reduces heaviness under the chin. Performed under local anaesthetic, with around a week of downtime.

Surgical Sagging Jawline Procedures

The gold standard method of correcting a sagging jawline remains the facelift procedure, and we are the first, and to date only, clinic in Scotland to offer the deep plane facelift technique. The deep plane technique is considered the most technically challenging type of facelift, although it gives the most effective and natural results which are considerably better than those obtained from more basic standard techniques. The beauty of the deep plane technique is that the jawline and neck hold their shape, even when you bend your head forward.

Deep Plane Face & Neck Lift

For patients with more advanced skin laxity seeking a lasting correction. The deeper layers of the face are released and repositioned, so the jawline and neck hold their shape rather than relying on skin tension.

The Full Facelift

A comprehensive surgical option for significant skin laxity across the lower face and neck. Deeper tissues are repositioned and excess skin removed, restoring definition to the jawline and creating a naturally refreshed lower face. Carried out under deep sedation with local anaesthetic.

Before, During, and After Sagging Jawline Treatments

Whether your treatment is non-surgical or surgical, we’ll guide you through every stage, from your initial consultation to your aftercare.

What To Expect Before Sagging Jawline Treatments

Every treatment begins with a consultation. We look at where volume has been lost, how much skin laxity is present, and how the chin and jaw sit in relation to the rest of your face. From there, we’ll talk you through the options that best suit your anatomy and explain what each treatment is realistically able to achieve.

What To Expect During Sagging Jawline Treatments

Comfort is planned for rather than managed afterwards. Dermal fillers and minimally invasive treatments are carried out under local anaesthetic, and surgical procedures under deep sedation with local anaesthetic. At every stage you will know what is happening and why.

What To Expect After Sagging Jawline Treatments

Recovery depends on the route you take. Non-surgical treatment usually allows a return to your routine straight away, with tenderness and swelling settling within a day or two. The Quantum Lift needs around a week. Recovery after surgery is naturally longer and more structured. Either way, a follow-up appointment lets us review how your result is settling and answer any questions in the weeks that follow.

Common Questions

What are the benefits?

By underpinning the soft tissues of the lower face and supporting the areas that are suboptimal, such as an under-developed chin, dermal fillers can effectively correct the appearance of sagging, and restore sharpness and definition to the jawline. In doing so, they can also balance the face, ensuring a harmonious, and natural-looking end result.

Which anaesthetic is used?

We use dermal fillers which contain a local anaesthetic known as lidocaine, which helps to reduce discomfort, while use of a topical numbing cream can be of benefit for patients who are anxious.

What's the downtime?

With dermal fillers, the jawline and chin may swell, and will feel tender post-procedure, though this has usually settled by the following day. Most patients are ready to resume their normal daily routine immediately after treatment. If bruising occurs, it can be easily covered with makeup, though this should not be applied until the next day. We also encourage patients to sleep with their head elevated for the first few nights following the procedure, to keep any swelling to a minimum.

When will I see results?

Following dermal fillers, the jawline regains a sense of strength and appears sharper, while the chin, though treated, is often imperceptible to anyone other than yourself. The best results, however, are to be seen in two weeks’ time, when the filler has fully integrated with the tissues.

What causes a sagging jawline?

A sagging jawline is usually the result of three changes at once: skin losing collagen and becoming lax, the mid-face fat pads losing volume and descending, and bone resorption around the chin and jaw reducing support. The balance varies by patient, which is why assessment comes first.

Can a sagging jawline be treated without surgery?

In many cases, yes. Where volume loss is the dominant change, restoring structure at the cheeks, chin and jawline creates a natural lifting effect. Where skin laxity is the main feature, tightening may be added. Every non-surgical treatment has its limitations, and we’ll explain honestly when surgery is likely to give a better result.

How long does sagging jawline treatment last?

Longevity varies by patient and product, but filler used to restore volume in this area typically lasts up to two years, with the chin and jawline often holding well because the tissue moves less. Results from the Quantum Lift are longer term, as the treatment works by tightening tissue and stimulating collagen rather than adding volume.

When should I consider a facelift instead of fillers?

When skin laxity has progressed beyond what added structure can support. If tissue has descended significantly, placing filler beneath it will not lift it and can add weight. We discuss this openly during your consultation and explain why surgery may be the more appropriate option.

Will my results still look natural?

Natural results come from restoring what has been lost rather than adding more than the face can carry. The aim is a clearly defined jawline without anyone identifying what was treated, which is why the chin is assessed alongside the jaw.
