Essential Tips for Effective anti-wrinkle Aftercare

Choosing Crow's Feet Treatment

Not everyone wants crow’s feet treated, and some patients see them as a positive attribute. Where they have become bothersome, the decision comes down to how far they extend. Faint lines that mostly disappear when the face relaxes respond well to anti-wrinkle injections alone, which often has the added effect of elevating the brow. Where the lines spread further down onto the cheek, our medical team combines gentle dosing around the eye with volume restoration to the cheek rather than increasing the dose, since relaxing the muscle that far down can affect the way the mouth looks when smiling.

What can help?

When crow’s feet are still fairly faint and mostly disappear when the face relaxes, they can be treated with injectable muscle relaxants. Doing this often helps to elevate the brow also, which can be helpful for patients who have early hooding of the eyelids.

When the crow's feet are a little more extensive

However, when crow’s feet are more extensive and are spreading further down onto the cheek area, then Anti-Wrinkle Injections alone may not be enough to achieve a satisfactory improvement. Although we can increase the dose and relax the muscle down onto the cheek, this can affect the way the mouth looks when smiling and can appear somewhat unnatural, a look we always aim to avoid. In this situation, it is best to combine gentle Anti-Wrinkle Injections around the eye area with some volume restoration to the cheek. This has the benefit of softening the lines, as well as lifting the mid-face.

Common Questions

What are the benefits?

Many people are anxious about muscle-relaxing injections, for fear of ending up with a “frozen” face, and this is where our extensive experience comes in. Correctly administered treatment should result in a harmonious balance of facial muscles that improves the overall appearance and condition of the skin along with crow’s feet, while still allowing your natural expression and character to shine through.

Which anaesthetic is used?

Crow’s feet treatment does not require the use of anaesthetic. When injecting, we use only the finest-gauge needles and take care to change these regularly, therefore reducing discomfort and potential bruising.

What's the downtime?

There is little to no downtime with crow’s feet treatment. Patients can resume their normal activities immediately after treatment, though applying makeup is not advised until the following day.

When will I see results?

The results of crow’s feet treatment can take up to two weeks to become apparent. The effects will typically last between three and four months before a repeat treatment is required. Typically, most people opt to have treatment two to three times per year, and they often try to coincide treatment dates with big events, such as birthdays or Christmas. Because of the apparent long-term benefits of repetitive treatments, we usually find that filler is only ever required at the first treatment. It is rare to repeat the use of filler in this area, so long as the muscles remain relaxed.

Will treatment leave my face looking frozen?

No, and avoiding that is the point of how the treatment is judged rather than how it is delivered. Crow’s feet come from the muscle around the eye, and the aim is to soften how deeply the skin creases while leaving the movement that makes an expression read as yours. Correctly administered treatment produces a harmonious balance of facial muscles, allowing your natural expression and character to come through. Where the lines extend down onto the cheek, we deliberately use gentle dosing around the eye combined with volume restoration rather than increasing the dose, because relaxing the muscle that far down can affect how the mouth looks when you smile.
