Thread Vein Removal

We offer thread vein removal from our clinic in Glasgow.

Red veins can be a cause of real concern and distress for people who are troubled by thread veins, red spots, spider naevi, rosacea and port wine stains. These conditions can be effectively treated using laser and IPL technology.

How do IPL machines work?

IPL works by releasing a small, sharp bust of filtered light that is absorbed by the red blood vessels.

The rapid absorption of the light results in the generation of heat that in turn destroys the blood vessels that are responsible for causing the redness.

What types of veins can be treated?

Thread Veins, Rosacea, Spider Naevi, Port Wine Stains

Am I suitable for treatment?

Most people are suitable for treatment except those who have very dark skin or have a current suntan.

With lighter skin tones there is a smaller risk of side effects or complications. The treatment works best for facial thread veins, spider naevi and rosacea.

How does the treatment feel?

Most patients describe the treatment as being mildly uncomfortable, similar to the flick of an elastic band. During the procedure we use a skin-cooling machine that should relieve any discomfort.

What should I expect after the treatment?

Immediately after treatment the veins may have gone completely or else it may have turned a greyish colour that will gradually fade.

The skin surrounding the vein will be slightly pink and in some cases may even be a little swollen for up to two days.

How long does each treatment take?

Each treatment will take 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the number and size of veins that require treatment.

How many treatments are necessary?

The number of treatments required varies depending on the lesion, but typically 3 to 5 treatments are required spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Consultation procedure

Prior to treatment you must first undergo a medical consultation to ascertain your suitability for treatment.

Before having the procedure you will be asked to sign a consent form and you may be required to undergo a small test patch.

I published my first paper in a medical journal, the British Journal of Cancer, in 2004 whilst I was still in my final year of medical school. Since then I have continued to work on aesthetic medical research.
