IPL Photorejuvenation Treatment in Glasgow
By using laser therapy for treatments such as an IPL photofacial, you can improve the colour and texture of your skin without surgery. IPL skin rejuvenation using the market leading BBL® HERO™ (Broadband Light High Energy Rapid Output) laser device offers a more advanced treatment than traditional intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. BBL® is a more effective and much less painful method for treating various skin conditions, from the face to the feet.
IPL skin rejuvenation is known to be particularly successful in reducing uneven skin tone/pigmentation on the face, such as age spots.
We have used IPL in the clinic for over 10 years, but with the BBL® device, we can offer patients a more intensive IPL photorejuvenation treatment that offers the best possible results quickly and without any downtime. Our latest Sciton upgrade allows us to continue offering patients the latest technology for treating everything from age spots, sun damage, and enlarged pores to spider veins/thread veins, rosacea, and wrinkles.

Skin Rejuvenation with Intense Pulsed Light
IPL promotes the skin’s natural colour and targets marks that cause darker skin tissue and blemishes. Intense pulsed light promotes skin rejuvenation by reducing the effects of hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation.
Laser units are delivered in rapid short pulses across the treated area to enhance skin rejuvenation and skin stimulating collagen production. A technician will handle the device across the appropriate structure of the affected area.
Although IPL laser units originally targeted hair removal, there are now many more uses for this type of treatment. Intense pulsed light is commonly used to treat skin conditions such as dark pigment tissue, fine lines, age spots, spider veins and wrinkles.
All the IPL procedures at our clinic are done by expert practitioners.
WHEN TO CONSIDER IPL
IPL can be used to treat many skin problems caused by ageing and sun damage, including:
• Dull, rough skin
• Enlarged pores
• Fine lines
• Age spots
• Uneven skin tone
• Pigmentation
• Broken capillaries (spider veins)

How Does IPL Work?
The wavelengths of light used in our intense pulsed light photorejuvenation treatments convert to heat, which decreases or destroys unwanted structures in the skin to create a more even skin tone and reduced pore size. IPL also induces the skin’s healing response, promoting collagen formation.
IPL uses light energy through pulsed light units to enhance skin rejuvenation. The overall result is improved skin texture and luminosity with a smoother, more youthful complexion.
Light Energy
IPL treatments allow for more controlled absorption of oils into the skin. The light comprises a small laser that activates the collagen beneath the skin and increases production. Light is absorbed by the appropriate structure, which turns to heat and thus deadens the cells of that area. Multiple and variable pulses ensure that the targeted area and surrounding tissues receive effective treatment.
IPL is an ideal treatment for mild to moderate signs of ageing. More severe signs of ageing are better suited to more aggressive resurfacing treatments such as CO2RE Laser Therapy.
It is safe to use on all skin types.

IPL Therapy vs
Laser Treatment
There are many similarities between intense pulsed light and traditional laser.
IPL therapy works across a larger skin area, whereas laser targets specific areas. Laser units are generated across one wavelength, whereas IPL uses many wavelengths, reaching the second layer of skin.
IPL for Acne
IPL photorejuvenation therapies can also be highly effective for mild to moderate acne and are proven to work in many ways.
During an IPL treatment for acne, rapid shorter pulses are emitted onto the skin from an applicator. The light is absorbed through several layers of skin and kills off the bacteria, thus reducing the inflammation that characterises acne.
Propionibacterium Acnes, the bacterium behind many cases of adult acne, is destroyed by the light wavelengths. Heating the overactive sebaceous glands decreases their sebum production while stimulating collagen production improves overall texture.
The overall result is a decrease in the number and severity of active lesions, a reduction in the frequency of breakouts, reduced inflammation, and improved skin texture.
How many treatments do I need?
More than one IPL treatment is recommended for the best results.
Although some results are visible following a single treatment, for maximal collagen stimulation, we recommend a course of 3 to 6 treatments in total, 2 to 4 weeks apart for the best possible results.
Once your desired results are achieved, IPL can be used on a lighter setting of the pulsed light for maintenance treatments to keep your skin in peak condition. Younger skin is just a few treatments away.
How does the treatment feel?
Most patients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable, similar to the flick of an elastic band. We use a skin-cooling machine that should relieve any discomfort during the procedure.
You will wear a pair of glasses during the treatment to protect your eyes.
What should i expect after the treatment?
Immediately after treatment, your skin will be slightly red and may become swollen and develop a tingling sensation. This will dissipate within a few days. Most patients can return to work and normal activities almost immediately.
