McKeown Medical
167 Bath Street, Glasgow, G2 4SQ
Non-surgical skin tightening at our Glasgow clinic, led by Dr Darren McKeown. McKeown Medical offers three of the most clinically proven skin tightening technologies available in the UK, Sofwave® ultrasound, BBL® SkinTyte broadband light, and Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling, each chosen because the evidence supports them and because they tighten the skin without compromising the deeper facial fat that gives the face its natural shape.
At consultation, we assess your skin and your goals and recommend the technology, or combination of technologies, most likely to deliver the result you want.

Every patient is unique. During consultation, we develop a bespoke plan based on your skin, your goals, and the most appropriate technology for both.
30 to 90 minutes depending on modality
Minimal for Sofwave® and BBL® SkinTyte. Two to three days for Morpheus8
Topical numbing only. No general anaesthetic is used at the clinic
12 to 18 months
Confirmed at consultation based on the technology and area treated
Dr Darren McKeown (GMC: 6128508) is the Founder and Medical Director of McKeown Medical and a Full Member of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine (BCAM). With 19 years of clinical practice and a long-standing focus on regenerative, non-surgical treatments, he selected Sofwave®, BBL® SkinTyte, and Morpheus8 as the clinic’s skin tightening offering specifically because each delivers measurable lifting and tightening without compromising the volumetric structure of the face.
Treatment is delivered by Dr McKeown and our trained medical team, and every protocol is planned at consultation. We do not use general anaesthetic for any treatment at the clinic.
The skin’s structural strength comes from collagen and elastin, two proteins produced in the dermis that give the skin its firmness and ability to recoil. From around the age of 25 onwards, collagen production slows by approximately one per cent per year. By the mid-40s, the cumulative loss is visible: the jawline softens, the neck begins to loosen, the skin around the eyes thins, and the face starts to lose its definition.
The temptation, when laxity becomes noticeable, is to reach for treatments that pull or shrink the skin. The problem with that approach is that the face does not age by gaining tightness, it ages by losing structure. Treatments that work by depleting fat or aggressively tightening the surface often create a hollow, drawn appearance that reads as older rather than younger.
Modern skin tightening takes the opposite approach. Devices like Sofwave®, BBL® SkinTyte, and Morpheus8 deliver controlled energy into the dermis to stimulate the body’s own wound-healing response. The result is new collagen, new elastin, and skin that is genuinely firmer, smoother, and more resilient, without the loss of facial volume that defines a heavy-handed result.

Our headline skin tightening treatment, Sofwave® uses Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB™) technology to deliver energy precisely into the mid-dermis, the layer where collagen is produced. Unlike older ultrasound and HIFU devices that penetrate deeper and can disrupt the fat compartments of the face, Sofwave® is confined to the skin layer itself. It is FDA cleared for lifting the eyebrow, tightening the upper neck, and improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Suitable for the face, jawline, neck, eyes, arms, and abdomen. BBL® SkinTyte uses pulsed infrared light to gently heat the deeper layers of the skin, prompting collagen contraction and stimulating new collagen production over time. It is particularly effective for patients with mild laxity who also want an improvement in skin tone and texture, and it pairs well with BBL® for pigmentation in the same session.

Morpheus8 combines microneedling with fractional radiofrequency energy delivered at a controlled depth in the dermis. It is the most intensive of the three options and is best suited to patients who want skin tightening combined with a visible improvement in skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles, and pore size. Recovery typically involves two to three days of redness.
McKeown Medical is one of the few clinics in Scotland to offer all three of these advanced skin tightening technologies under one medically led roof. Patients travel to the clinic from across Glasgow, including the West End, Southside, and the East End, and from surrounding suburbs such as Newton Mearns, Bearsden, Giffnock, Milngavie, and Bothwell. Patients also travel regularly from Edinburgh, Stirling, Ayrshire, and the wider west of Scotland.
Finding the right treatment for you is the most important factor in ensuring that you are on the correct path to achieve the results you desire. Our pre-consultation form helps us to identify your needs and, ultimately, gets you on the right path to achieving your optimal results.
Skin tightening rarely sits in isolation. The most natural results come from a layered approach, where Sofwave®, BBL® SkinTyte, or Morpheus8 work alongside other treatments that address volume, pigmentation, surface texture, or structural ageing. At consultation, we plan combinations rather than booking single treatments, because the right plan almost always involves more than one technology.
As the skin tightens, lost facial volume becomes more visible. Pairing skin tightening with cheek filler, tear trough filler, or the Volumetric Facelift restores structure beneath the skin so the tightening result reads as genuine rejuvenation, not just lifted skin.
Sun damage, melasma, and uneven skin tone become more obvious as the skin firms up. BBL® treatment addresses pigmentation in the same session as SkinTyte, often delivered as a “Forever Young” protocol.
Where skin texture, scarring, or fine lines need to be addressed alongside tightening, HALO laser or full laser resurfacing can be staged before or after skin tightening to refine the surface.
Sculptra® and polynucleotide treatments stimulate collagen at a different depth than skin tightening devices, and the two compound when used together over time.
Skin tightening cannot replicate the result of a surgical facelift, and at consultation we will tell you honestly if surgical options such as the deep plane face and neck lift or full facelift would deliver the result you want. Skin tightening can also be used after facelift surgery to maintain results and prolong the outcome.
McKeown Medical is at 167 Bath Street, Glasgow, G2 4SQ, in the heart of the city centre. The clinic is two minutes’ walk from Charing Cross station and ten minutes from Glasgow Central. Buchanan Street subway is a short walk away, and Queen Street station is around twelve minutes on foot.
For patients driving in, there is metered street parking on Bath Street and Holland Street, and several NCP and Q-Park multi-storey car parks within a five-minute walk, including those on Cambridge Street and Mitchell Street. Patients travelling from Edinburgh can reach the clinic in under an hour by train to Glasgow Queen Street, followed by a short walk or taxi.
The right answer depends on your skin, the degree of laxity, and what you want to achieve. At consultation we assess all three options against your goals and recommend the modality, or combination, most likely to deliver the result you want. Some patients are best served by Sofwave® alone, others benefit from a layered protocol that combines technologies.
Pricing depends on the technology used and the area treated. Sofwave®, BBL® SkinTyte, and Morpheus8 are each quoted at consultation based on the protocol agreed and the surface area being treated. Final pricing is always confirmed in writing at consultation. Full Sofwave® pricing is published on our skin tightening pricing page.
Not with the technologies we use. Sofwave® is confined to the dermis and does not affect the deeper fat compartments of the face. BBL® SkinTyte and Morpheus8 are also delivered in a way that protects facial volume. The risk of fat loss and hollowing comes from older, deeper-penetrating devices we deliberately do not use.
Some patients notice early tightening within a few weeks, but the meaningful change is gradual, building over three to six months as new collagen forms. Results continue to refine for up to nine months following treatment.
Most patients describe Sofwave® and BBL® SkinTyte as a series of brief warm pulses, well tolerated with topical numbing. Morpheus8 is more intense and is performed under topical anaesthetic with longer numbing time. We do not use general anaesthetic for any treatment at the clinic.
Yes. Patients regularly travel to the clinic from Edinburgh, Stirling, Ayrshire, and across the west of Scotland. Glasgow city centre is accessible in under an hour by train from Edinburgh, and we schedule travelling patients with consultation and treatment in the same visit where appropriate.
