Over time, the Upper Arm region becomes increasingly susceptible to unwanted fat. This is exacerbated by two factors: first, the underlying muscles, the triceps, which are frustratingly hard to tone; secondly, the overlying skin, which gradually becomes slack and less elastic. However, with an appropriate course of treatment, we can help to restore svelteness, not only slimming the upper arms, but also giving them a more sculpted appearance.

Loose upper arms, often described as “bingo wings,” are one of the most common body concerns we see at McKeown Medical. For many patients, the problem is not simply excess fat. Arm ageing and arm contour concerns are usually caused by a combination of stubborn localised fat, loose or crepey skin, loss of tissue firmness, and age-related collagen decline. Unfortunately, exercise alone often cannot fully address these changes.
The upper arms are particularly prone to fat accumulation, skin laxity, and collagen loss. This is especially common after weight loss, following menopause, with ageing, and in patients who are genetically prone to upper arm fullness. The challenge is that many treatments only address one part of the problem. Fat reduction alone may leave loose skin behind, while skin tightening alone may not adequately reduce volume. Modern arm contouring therefore requires a more comprehensive approach.
At McKeown Medical, we offer some of the most advanced arm contouring treatments available in Scotland, combining fat reduction and skin tightening technologies to create smoother, firmer, more sculpted arms. Our preferred approach combines Quantum RF skin tightening, Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction, and Power Assisted Liposuction, representing what we believe is the gold standard in minimally invasive arm contouring for patients who want to avoid more invasive traditional surgery. For patients with the most significant excess skin we provide traditional arm lift brachioplasty surgery, and for those with less significant laxity we can offer Sofwave skin tightening and Sculptra collagen stimulation.
Treating the upper arms effectively requires more than simply removing fat. It involves understanding how volume and skin quality interact to influence the overall appearance of the arm.
In our clinic, we take a holistic view. By carefully assessing the structure of the upper arms, we can design a treatment plan that improves contour while maintaining natural proportions. The result is a subtle, refined improvement rather than an over-treated look.
The most appropriate treatment for the upper arms depends on the underlying cause of the concern. Some patients present primarily with localised fat, while others are more affected by skin laxity or texture changes.
During your consultation, we will assess both factors in detail. This allows us to recommend a personalised treatment plan that is tailored specifically to your upper arms, ensuring results that are both effective and natural.
The upper arms can change over time due to ageing, genetics, and weight fluctuations. These changes often lead to a loss of definition and the development of loose or hanging tissue, commonly referred to as “bingo wings.”
We commonly treat concerns affecting the upper arms, including excess fat, loose skin, crepey texture, and lack of contour. Our focus is always on achieving a result that feels balanced and in keeping with your overall proportions.
At McKeown Medical, we combine advanced body contouring technologies, doctor-led expertise, state-of-the-art skin tightening, and luxury patient care. We focus on achieving natural-looking arm contour, improved skin quality, and elegant, proportionate results. Our clinic is proud to be the only centre in Scotland combining Quantum RF, UAL, and PAL technologies for advanced arm contouring.

The Most Advanced Non-Excisional Arm Contouring Treatment
At McKeown Medical, our preferred treatment for many patients combines three advanced technologies. Quantum RF delivers controlled radiofrequency energy beneath the skin to tighten loose tissue and stimulate collagen contraction. Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction gently emulsifies and softens fat before removal, allowing more precise contouring with less trauma to surrounding tissues. Power Assisted Liposuction uses rapid micro-vibrations to allow smoother, more refined fat extraction and sculpting. Together, these technologies reduce stubborn arm fat, tighten loose skin, improve contour and definition, and create a smoother, more elegant arm shape. This modern combination approach is increasingly regarded as the gold standard in body contouring, and we are proud to be the only clinic in Scotland currently offering this advanced combination of technologies.
Why This Approach Is Better Than Traditional Liposuction
Traditional liposuction focused almost entirely on fat removal, but removing fat does not automatically tighten the skin. This is why older techniques sometimes produced loose or sagging skin, irregular contours, and poor skin retraction. By combining fat reduction with Quantum RF skin tightening, we can address both volume excess and tissue laxity, creating a far more refined and natural-looking result.
Who Is Suitable for Quantum RF Arm Contouring?
This treatment is particularly suitable for patients with mild to moderate bingo wings who want slimmer, more sculpted arms, have stubborn fat resistant to exercise, have mild to moderate skin laxity, or want to avoid larger surgical scars. During your consultation, we carefully assess fat distribution, skin quality, degree of laxity, and overall suitability for treatment.
For patients with more significant loose skin, an arm lift may be the best option. Arm lift surgery removes excess skin, loose tissue, and localised fat through a surgical incision along the inner arm. It is generally most appropriate for patients with significant skin excess, those who have experienced major weight loss, or where there is severe tissue laxity. An arm lift can create dramatic improvement in arm contour, but it does involve surgical scarring, a longer recovery, and more invasive surgery than the alternatives. For this reason, many patients now explore minimally invasive options such as Quantum RF first.

For patients with mild skin laxity and little excess fat, Sofwave® can be an excellent non-surgical option. Sofwave uses advanced ultrasound technology to stimulate collagen production within the skin, helping to improve mild crepey skin, early laxity, and overall skin firmness and texture. With no surgery, no incisions, and minimal downtime, it suits patients who want a gentler approach to arm contouring.
However, Sofwave® is generally best suited to patients with relatively mild changes. Patients with more significant laxity or fatty tissue often achieve superior results with Quantum RF-based treatments.
Sculptra® is an injectable collagen stimulator that works gradually by stimulating the body’s own collagen production, rather than adding volume in the way traditional filler does. It can improve crepey skin texture, mild skin thinning, and age-related collagen loss, with progressive improvements in skin thickness, firmness, and overall skin quality over time.
Sculptra® is often most effective for patients experiencing early ageing changes, and works particularly well when combined with energy-based treatments. It is also a suitable option for patients who are not yet ready for a surgical or liposuction-based procedure.
If your main concern with the upper arm is skin quality, for example, crepe-like skin texture, then skin tightening with the BBL SkinTyte device is a useful tool. SkinTyte uses powerful pulsed light into the skin to stimulate collagen production and skin contraction. Typically, a course of six treatments, each spaced two weeks apart, is enough to deliver a meaningful improvement in the wrinkling of the skin, like in the patient example here, treated at McKeown Medical.
CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is a non-surgical option for patients with localised upper arm fat who prefer a non-invasive approach with no downtime. For patients with more significant fat or skin laxity, our preferred approach combines Quantum RF, UAL, and PAL for more comprehensive results.
We offer a focused range of treatments for the upper arms, each selected for its ability to deliver consistent, high-quality results. In many cases, combining treatments allows us to address both fat and skin quality for a more complete outcome.
Finding the right treatment for you is the most important factor in ensuring that you are on the correct path to achieve the results you desire. Our pre-consultation enquiry helps us to identify your needs and, ultimately, gets you on the right path to achieving your optimal results.
Understanding what to expect from your upper arms treatment journey is an important part of achieving a positive experience. We aim to make every stage clear, comfortable, and tailored to you.
Your journey begins with a detailed consultation. We assess your upper arms, discuss your concerns, and develop a personalised treatment plan designed to achieve your goals in a natural and proportionate way.
Most upper arms treatments are straightforward and well tolerated. Procedures are performed in clinic, typically without the need for anaesthetic, and are designed to fit easily into your day.
There is usually minimal downtime following upper arms treatments. Results develop gradually, with improvements in contour and skin quality becoming more noticeable over the following weeks and months.
Our advanced arm contouring procedures are typically performed under local anaesthetic with deep sedation delivered by a consultant anaesthetist. This allows patients to sleep comfortably throughout treatment, wake rapidly afterwards, and avoid many of the side effects associated with general anaesthetic. Patients are carefully monitored throughout in our fully regulated clinical environment.
Recovery varies depending on the treatment performed. After Quantum RF combined with liposuction, most patients experience swelling and bruising for one to two weeks, compression garments for several weeks, and progressive tightening over several months. Recovery after arm lift surgery is typically longer and includes surgical dressings, scar management, and several weeks of restricted activity. Your treatment plan and recovery expectations will be discussed in detail during consultation.
This depends on the amount of fat, loose skin, and tissue laxity present. For many patients, Quantum RF combined with liposuction technologies offers the best balance between effective contouring and minimally invasive treatment.
Yes. Many patients can achieve excellent improvement without a formal arm lift using Quantum RF, UAL, PAL, Sofwave, and Sculptra.
Not reliably. This is why we combine liposuction with Quantum RF skin tightening for improved skin contraction and contour.
Our preferred approach combines Quantum RF, UAL, and PAL to address both excess fat and skin laxity simultaneously, creating smoother, firmer, and more sculpted arms.
Quantum RF combined with liposuction and arm lift brachioplasty are both performed under deep sedation delivered by a consultant anaesthetist. Sofwave and Sculptra require no anaesthetic and are performed as walk-in, walk-out procedures.
Downtime varies depending on the treatment. Non-surgical treatments such as Sofwave and Sculptra involve minimal downtime and most patients resume normal activities immediately or within a day or two.
After Quantum RF combined with liposuction, most patients experience swelling and bruising for one to two weeks, with compression garments worn for several weeks afterwards. Progressive tightening continues over several months as collagen remodelling takes place.
Recovery after arm lift brachioplasty is longer and involves surgical dressings, scar management, and several weeks of restricted activity. Your recovery expectations will be discussed in full during your consultation.
After Quantum RF combined with liposuction, initial improvement is visible once swelling subsides, with progressive tightening continuing over several months as collagen remodelling takes place.
Results following arm lift brachioplasty are visible once post-operative swelling resolves, typically within a few weeks.
Non-surgical treatments such as Sofwave and Sculptra deliver gradual improvements over several weeks to months. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle will help to preserve your results long term.
Upper arm treatments are generally well-tolerated. Patients undergoing Quantum RF combined with liposuction are comfortable throughout under deep sedation.
Non-surgical treatments may involve temporary sensations such as warmth or mild pressure, but these settle quickly and do not interfere with daily activities.
Yes, for both men and women. Men often present with denser fatty tissue, while women more often notice skin laxity after weight loss, pregnancy, or menopause.
During your consultation we assess fat, skin quality, and laxity so the approach is tailored to your individual arms.
Yes, upper arm treatments can be combined with other body contouring treatments to create a more balanced and harmonious result. This is something we assess carefully during your consultation to ensure the outcome is natural and proportionate to your overall shape.
There is no specific age for upper arms treatments. Suitability depends on your individual concerns and the condition of your skin and underlying tissue.
Once fat cells are removed from the upper arms, they do not return. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle will help to preserve your results long term.
