What can help?

The first line of treatment for excessive sweating is to use over-the-counter products designed to help reduce the production of sweat. If these are not successful, however, injections can be performed that reduce the activity of the sweat glands and therefore help to reduce the excessive sweating.

The effects of the injections can last anywhere from three to six months. Many patients choose to have the treatment once per year in the lead up to summer to do them over the hotter months, when the symptoms of excessive sweating are typically worse, although some patients are so affected by the problem that they come back more frequently.

Common Questions

What are the benefits?

The main benefit is that the symptoms of excess sweating are reduced or stopped for up to 95% of patients. The treatment for excessive sweating is also non-surgical, which makes it much less invasive than surgical alternatives.

Which anaesthetic is used?

The injections are performed with tiny needles, so often no anaesthetic is required at all. If you are having a particularly sensitive area, such as the hands or feet, treated for excessive sweating, then we will often apply a numbing cream for half an hour before the injections.

What is the downtime?

There is no downtime with the excessive sweating treatment. You are able to resume normal activities immediately following treatment.

When will I see results?

It typically takes around two weeks for the excessive sweating treatment to reach its full effect.
