Julaine: PLLA Filler

Julaine™ is an advanced poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) biostimulatory filler that works with your body to restore lost facial structure and volume by stimulating collagen production.
Rather than adding volume with hyaluronic acid (HA) gel, Julaine™ encourages your skin to rebuild its own support network — offering subtle, natural, and enduring rejuvenation.

At McKeown Medical, we integrate Julaine™ within our broader philosophy of regenerative aesthetics: promoting the body’s ability to renew and repair itself for results that look and feel completely natural.

How Does It Work?

What is Julaine™ PLLA filler?

Julaine™ belongs to a class of injectables known as biostimulators — treatments that trigger your skin’s natural regenerative mechanisms. Its active ingredient, poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), is a biocompatible, biodegradable material long used in medicine for dissolvable sutures and implants.

When injected into areas of volume loss, the PLLA microparticles create a gentle stimulus that activates fibroblasts — the skin cells responsible for collagen production.

Over the following weeks, new collagen fibres form and rebuild the underlying structure of the face, leading to smoother contours, firmer skin, and restored volume that looks completely natural.

Unlike traditional HA fillers, Julaine™ doesn’t simply fill space — it helps your body rebuild its own volume from within.

How does it differ from hyaluronic acid fillers?

At McKeown Medical, we continue to regard HA fillers as safe, effective, and reversible options for facial rejuvenation. However, we recognise that some patients prefer a non-HA approach — whether due to personal preference, concerns about long-term gel fillers, or an interest in more natural collagen-stimulating treatments.  HA filler give instant results that typically last 12-18 months before a touch up is required. They can also be dissolved if you have a complication or don’t like the result. Julaine gives a more gradual improvement over several months and lasts up to two years, although they cannot be reversed. You need to wait for it to wear off.

For patients who wish to restore structure through regeneration rather than replacement, Julaine™ offers an elegant, evidence-based alternative.

Julaine™ vs. other PLLA collagen stimulators

While several poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) injectables are now available, Julaine™ represents the latest evolution in this category — developed to refine, stabilise and improve upon earlier generations such as Sculptra® and Lanluma®. One of the key differences is that Julaine is much less likely to cause lumps and nodules, which means you don’t need to religiously massage after treatment. You can simply get back to your normal routine straight away.

All three products work through the same fundamental mechanism — stimulating the body’s own collagen production to rebuild lost facial structure. However, Julaine™ introduces several key improvements that make it a more controlled, predictable and patient-friendly experience.

Sculptra® Lanluma® Julaine™ (Julaine)
PLLA concentration   Higher particle density; may require greater dilution Moderate concentration; similar to Sculptra® Optimised particle size and concentration for smoother integration and even collagen stimulation
Onset of results Gradual – typically visible after 8–12 weeks Gradual – 8–12 weeks Slightly earlier onset (6–8 weeks) due to uniform particle dispersion and more efficient collagen activation
Texture & injectability Slightly thicker, requires longer reconstitution time Similar handling Smoother, more homogeneous suspension – easier, more precise injection and even tissue distribution
Safety profile Proven long-term safety with experienced injectors Comparable safety profile Designed to minimise post-treatment lumpiness and inflammation through improved biocompatibility
Indicated areas Mid- to lower-face volume loss (avoiding lips/tear-troughs) Similar Same indications – but with smoother placement suitable for finer contouring in select regions

What this means in practice:

  • More predictable outcomes: Refined particle design allows smoother distribution and more uniform collagen stimulation — reducing the risk of unevenness or nodularity sometimes seen with earlier PLLA products.
  • Improved handling: The suspension is easier to inject, enabling greater precision and comfort for both patient and practitioner.
  • Enhanced biocompatibility: The updated formulation has been engineered for a gentler inflammatory response, encouraging healthy collagen synthesis rather than excessive fibrosis.
  • Consistent results: Because of its balanced concentration and particle size, Julaine™ achieves steady, progressive improvement — ideal for subtle, regenerative rejuvenation.

In essence, Julaine™ delivers all the proven benefits of PLLA collagen stimulation — long-lasting volume, structural support, and natural rejuvenation — while refining the safety, texture and predictability profile of its predecessors.

Who is suitable for Julaine™?

Julaine™ is ideal for patients who:

  • Have early to moderate facial volume loss (e.g. cheeks, temples, jawline)
  • Prefer gradual, natural rejuvenation rather than immediate fullness
  • Wish to avoid hyaluronic acid fillers
  • Value regenerative treatments that harness the body’s own biology
  • Want long-lasting results with minimal maintenance

It is not typically recommended for very superficial lines, lips, or tear-trough areas, where hyaluronic acid fillers remain more suitable.

What to Expect

The regenerative aesthetic approach

Julaine™ represents a modern direction in aesthetics — one focused on stimulating the body’s own repair mechanisms, rather than relying solely on external volume replacement.

This regenerative approach sits at the heart of McKeown Medical’s ethos. By combining Julaine™ with complementary treatments such as Sofwave® ultrasound tightening or BBL and Halo lasers, we can enhance both the structure and quality of the skin, producing naturally youthful, enduring results.

Treatment process

  1. Consultation
Every treatment begins with a detailed consultation with your doctor. We’ll assess your facial structure, degree of volume loss, and skin health to determine whether Julaine™ is the most appropriate option for your goals.
  2. Preparation
The treatment area is cleaned, and topical or local anaesthetic is applied for comfort.
  3. Injection
Julaine™ is carefully injected into the targeted areas using precise, deep-dermal or subdermal placement. The product acts as a scaffold for your skin to begin generating new collagen over time.
  4. Aftercare
Mild redness or swelling may occur and typically resolves within a few days. You’ll be asked to follow a massage routine (for example, 5 minutes, 5 times per day for 5 days) to ensure even collagen stimulation and minimise any risk of lumpiness.
  5. Repeat treatment
Second and third sessions are planned after four week intervals.

    Results timeline

    • Weeks 0–4: Subtle fullness begins to appear
    • Months 2–3: Collagen production increases; contours become smoother and firmer
    • Months 6 + : Full results visible, lasting up to 2 years or more

Safety and considerations

Julaine™ is CE-marked and uses the same core ingredient (PLLA) found in other well-established collagen stimulators. As with any injectable treatment, bruising, swelling or tenderness can occur.

Because results develop gradually and cannot be dissolved, Julaine™ should always be performed by an experienced, medically trained injector who understands facial anatomy and collagen dynamics — such as our team at McKeown Medical.

Common Questions

How many sessions will I need?

Most patients benefit from three sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart, to achieve optimal collagen stimulation. Maintenance sessions may be recommended every 18–24 months.

Can I combine Julaine™ with other treatments?

Yes. It can be combined with Sofwave®, BBL, Halo laser, or hyaluronic acid fillers in other areas for a full-face rejuvenation plan.

When will I see results?

Initial improvement is visible within a few weeks, but the true benefits develop gradually as collagen forms, typically over 3 months.

Will I look overfilled?

No. Julaine™ builds volume progressively and naturally, so results evolve subtly without abrupt or exaggerated changes.

Is it reversible?

Because Julaine™ stimulates your own collagen rather than using an injectable gel, it cannot be dissolved. The effects fade naturally as collagen metabolism slows over time.
