Novasure treats heavy periods, but isn’t for women planning pregnancies. It helps with fibroids and adenomyosis, but isn’t suitable for those with infections or uterine abnormalities. A consultation ensures the right treatment.
Novasure is ideal for women who are experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding or menorrhagia that hasn’t been managed with other treatments. It can also help with conditions like uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps, and adenomyosis that cause excessive bleeding. However, Novasure is not suitable for women who want to become pregnant in the future, as the procedure affects your fertility. It’s also not recommended for women who have active pelvic infection, uterine cancer, or certain structural abnormalities in the uterus. If you are bothered by heavy periods and are interested in treating the problem permanently, it’s important to have a thorough consultation with your gynaecologist to determine if Novasure is the best option for you. We will work with you to ensure the best treatment plan for your needs.

Novasure endometrial ablation significantly reduces or stops periods for many women, but results vary. Find out what to expect from the procedure and how it can help manage heavy menstrual bleeding.
Novasure is a type of endometrial ablation that helps treat heavy menstrual bleeding by removing the uterine lining. For many women, the result is lighter period or, in some cases, periods that stop altogether. While complete cessation of periods is not guaranteed, most women experience significantly reduced bleeding or no periods at all after the procedure. However, some women may still have occasional light bleeding or spotting. After the procedure, it’s important to follow up with your gynaecologist to monitor your recovery and discuss any changes in your menstrual cycle. If you’re considering Novasure, we’re here to help you understand all your options and find the best solution for you.

Endometrial ablation is ideal for women in their 30s and 40s who have completed their families and experience heavy menstrual bleeding without underlying conditions like fibroids or polyps. Before the Novasure procedure, a diagnostic hysteroscopy is performed to rule out any other conditions. If you’re considering endometrial ablation, we can help determine if it’s the right choice for you.
Endometrial ablation is most effective for women who are in their 30s and 40s, particularly those who have completed their family. This is the ideal age group because the procedure can help manage heavy menstrual bleeding, especially when other treatments haven’t worked or when the patient doesn’t want to commit to taking long-term hormone treatment. It’s also best for women who have heavy menstrual bleeding but no other pathology, like polyps or fibroids. Before we do the Novasure procedure, we begin with a diagnostic hysteroscopy to look around the uterus and make sure there are no other conditions that should be treated first. If you’re considering endometrial ablation, we can guide you through the options and determine if it’s the right choice for you.

It may take a few cycles to see the full benefits of endometrial ablation. The first period post-procedure may be irregular, lighter, or have a different texture. Over time, most women experience significantly lighter periods, shorter cycles, or no periods at all. If you have concerns about your recovery, we are here to support you.
After your endometrial ablation, it can take several cycles before you appreciate the results of the treatment. It’s common for the first period after the procedure to be irregular or slightly different in texture as your body adjusts. Some women may notice spotting or a change in the flow. This is all quite normal. Eventually, you should notice much lighter bleeding compared to the pre-ablation periods. Your period may be also shorter in duration, often lasting just a few days. Some women stop having periods altogether. If you are concerned about your first period after ablation, don’t hesitate to contact your gynaecologist. We are here to provide support and ensure you recover well from your procedure.

Novasure is a highly effective treatment for heavy periods, but like any medical procedure, it comes with potential side effects. Some women experience temporary cramping, spotting, or irregular bleeding. Proper rest, pain management, and follow-up care help minimize discomfort and ensure a smooth recovery. Learn what to expect and how Novasure can improve your quality of life.
Novasure is generally a very safe and effective procedure, although, like all medical procedures, it does carry a risk of side effects and complications. Some women experience cramping after the procedure as the uterus adjusts. This is usually temporary, and taking over-the-counter pain relief can help minimise discomfort. Another possible side effect is spotting or irregular bleeding, especially in the first few months after the procedure. We recommend tracking your cycle and letting us know at your follow-up appointment if the bleeding becomes heavy or prolonged. To minimise these side effects, it’s important to rest and avoid strenuous activities immediately after your procedure. We will guide you on the best pain management and recovery plan. Most side effects resolve of their own accord, but we’re here to monitor your recovery and make sure you’re on the right path.
We believe in clear, transparent pricing. We have no vague ‘from’ prices: the prices here are accurate and reflect what you will pay for our level of expertise, technology and service.
On the day of your NovaSure® endometrial ablation, our team will ensure you feel comfortable and prepared. Here’s what you can expect:
Arrival and Preparation
The Procedure
Post-Procedure Care
You will be monitored briefly in our recovery area to ensure you are comfortable and ready to go home.
If you prefer, you have the option of receiving sedation during the NovaSure® procedure. Sedation is provided by a Consultant Anaesthetist who inserts a cannula in the back of your hand and delivers some medication to make you drowsy.
The sedation means that you are drowsy throughout your procedure and usually won’t remember it afterwards. The effects will wear off very quickly as soon as the sedation medicine is stopped at the end of the procedure – typically within 10-15 minutes.
If you have your procedure performed under sedation, you will need a responsible adult to take you home afterwards and stay with you for 4 hours. You should not drive until the following day.
Recovery from NovaSure® endometrial ablation is usually quick, with minimal discomfort. Our team will provide comprehensive aftercare instructions to help you recover smoothly and achieve the best results.
What to Expect After the Procedure
Follow-Up Care
A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to assess your progress and address any concerns. Our team is always available to provide ongoing support and answer any questions about your recovery or results.
