A Powerful Way to Restore Facial Volume without Surgery

Cheek Fillers Glasgow

When performed properly, the injection of dermal fillers to the cheek area has the power to transform the face by restoring the younger, healthier shape and contour it once had. These results are virtually undetectable as the overlying skin adapts to the added definition to enhance the overall face shape and give it a more youthful appearance.

Injecting dermal fillers into the cheeks is one of the best ways to restore natural volume to your cheekbones.

How Do HA Dermal Fillers Rejuvenate the Face and Skin?

The injection of hyaluronic acid fillers in the cheeks and mid-face area can be so effective because of how the face and skin age.

When we are young, we have a full, healthy layer of fat that lies below the skin and gives the face its youthful fullness. As we age, however, we lose facial volume — so this fatty layer diminishes, leading to the appearance of deflation or descent in the cheek and face. This process typically begins in the early 30s and accelerates throughout the 40s and into the 50s.

Before & After: Following Cheek Filler Treatment.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar in the body, so using HA fillers essentially restores volume using a natural substance that the body already has. These dermal fillers work by binding to water molecules in the skin, adding volume and hydration to the treated areas. This helps to plump up facial features, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Dermal fillers also stimulate collagen production, a key protein that provides elasticity and firmness to the skin. Over time, this can further improve the skin’s texture and overall quality.

Restoring this volume loss with dermal fillers can be one of the most gratifying procedures to perform in an aesthetic practice, but like all cosmetic procedures, the experience and aesthetic judgement of the doctor are key to achieving an attractive and natural-looking result.

How Do Cheek Filler Treatments Work?

The goal is never to change the face; the goal is to restore and enhance it.

We used to think of the fatty layer beneath the skin as a single unit, but new research has enlightened our understanding of the anatomy of facial fat. These new findings show us that the fat actually exists in a number of distinct compartments under the skin, each separated by a fibrous membrane that is ageing in a different way. Therefore, restoring volume and definition to the face requires much more than simply fattening the face up diffusely. To add volume and add definition that achieves the most natural look, the plumping effect of the dermal filler treatment will need to be executed at key positions in the cheek relating to the underlying anatomy and cheekbones.

This is where Dr Darren McKeown’s decade of experience comes in — he uses his expertise to enhance the effects of the treatment and achieve the most natural results for your skin.

Our cheek fillers are injected into specific areas based on the desired outcome. These cheek injections are minimally invasive and typically provide immediate results.

How Do Cheek Fillers Affect the Facial Appearance?

The primary purpose of facial fillers is to restore lost volume and reduce fine lines & wrinkles by smoothing out the skin. Facial fillers for the cheeks accomplish this by focusing on the mid-face area. Cheekbone fillers can add volume that plumps up the cheeks and improves facial symmetry while reducing the appearance of sagging skin, wrinkles, and hollow areas.

Cheek dermal fillers can also help enhance the contours of the face by defining the cheekbones to create a more sculpted appearance and restoring a youthful fullness to this treatment area.

The dermal filler cheek procedure can include both upper cheek filler and lower cheek filler, sometimes extending further down as part of a cheek and jaw fillers treatment. This can be discussed in your initial consultation.

What to Expect from your Cheek Augmentation?

For cheek augmentation, I virtually always use Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™ because it is a long-lasting product that is safe and effective on the skin. Most patients will get a good result that lasts a year, while it will last even longer than this for other patients.

Various other products proclaim to offer longer-lasting results, but I feel very passionately about not using these semi-permanent facial fillers to restore volume. The safety profile and reversibility of VOLUMA — like all hyaluronic acid products — make it my first choice for any cheek augmentation filler procedure.

Some of our products also include a local anaesthetic in the injections. However, there is always the option of using a topical anaesthetic on the skin for those who do not want local anaesthetic used for their cheek fillers treatment.

Most patients at the earlier stages of ageing will require a total of 2cc of VOLUMA for a satisfactory correction. Some people with more advanced ageing and volume loss may need higher volumes.

We can create a dermal filler treatment plan for you — whether you want to add volume, rejuvenate the skin, define & enhance your cheekbones, target deep lines, or just look a bit younger. We will discuss all of the details with you during your consultation.
