Choosing Between Surgical and Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
When it comes to facial aesthetics, the nose plays an important role. A nose that is too big or skew can dramatically change the aesthetics of your face and make you feel less confident about how you look.
Rhinoplasty treatments are one of the most common cosmetic treatments for fixing and improving this part of the face.
But which is best for you?
We compare surgical and non-surgical rhinoplasty below.
Surgical Nose Job
Treatment
Cosmetic rhinoplasty surgery is a serious procedure as it is an invasive surgery that can change the structure of your nose. Because it is surgical, patients can expect the procedure and recovery process to match. Usually, rhinoplasty surgery requires local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia.
Once the underlying structure of the nose is sculpted to the desired shape and the rhinoplasty is complete, the nasal skin and tissue are redraped and the incisions are closed. Stitches can be dissolvable or normal. The latter will need to be removed a week later.
Recovery
You will need to take up to 2 weeks off work (the majority of the swelling and bruising should subside within the first 2 weeks), while the bones in your nose may take over 6 weeks to heal.
Even then, it might be several months before you see the full results because, while most of the bruising might not stay long, minor swelling can still last up to 6 months.
Reasons to have Surgical Rhinoplasty
This could be to change the size of your nose or as a form of major nose reshaping to alter the angles of the bridge or tip, or narrowing your nostrils.
It could also be to correct nasal or breathing issues that result from a deviated septum. This occurs when the nasal septum is skew.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Treatment
The non-surgical version of rhinoplasty is sometimes called ‘liquid rhinoplasty’ or the ’15-minute nose job’ because this revolutionary injection procedure is so simple and effective.
By using dermal fillers injected around the nose tissue to subtly change the contour of the nose, this treatment offers a more natural solution for nose reshaping. This is because we use injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) as our nose fillers of choice, which consists of sugar molecules found naturally in the skin and other connective tissues in the body.
The placement of each injection is extremely precise and will be decided in your consultation according to your reshaping desires and requirements. For each of the patients at our Glasgow-based clinic, we ensure that the non-surgical rhinoplasty treatment is tailored to suit their unique needs.
As this is not an invasive rhinoplasty surgery but a non-surgical injected filler, there is no need for general anaesthesia. Instead, we offer you two options – a topical numbing cream that numbs the surface of the skin and a local anaesthetic that numbs the whole nasal area.
Recovery
Nose fillers are a non-invasive treatment using injections so your skin will remain intact without the need for stitches. While you may experience sensitivity around the treated area for the first 24 hours, there is no downtime and you can return to work immediately.
Any minor swelling that you might experience will subside in the first few days or so.
Reasons to Have Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
As far as non-invasive rhinoplasty procedures go, patients can enjoy a quick treatment with instantaneously powerful results – all without committing to changing their nasal structure. You can only really unpack the true capabilities of a treatment like this in your consultation because every nose and face is unique and needs to be treated as such.
Examples of how this nose job alternative with nose fillers can provide a cosmetic solution include:
• bridge augmentation for smaller or flatter noses
• nasal tip projection to change the rotational angle of the nose tip
• hump correction to straighten a slightly more hook-shaped nose
• correct asymmetry on a slightly crooked or bent nose
• smoothing minor indentations for a straighter look
• Plus, the hyaluronic acid in the fillers plays a valuable role in hydrating and nourishing the skin.
